ABOUT
An antiquarian bookstore with a bright red awning that's been a Jimbocho fixture since 2004, though its parent shop Natsume Shobo dates back to 1920. The ground floor is stacked with books on painting, photography, fashion, architecture, philosophy, and critical theory — with a strong selection in both Japanese and English. Head up the narrow staircase and you're in a proper gallery: original paintings, sketches, handwritten manuscripts, and calligraphy by literary figures including over 100 original works by Takehisa Yumeji. Everything can be handled and examined. The kind of place that rewards slow browsing and a willingness to get lost in what you find. A good pairing with Komiyama just around the corner.
